The Shishu Kishore Akademi is an institution under the aegis of Information and Cultural Affairs Department, Government of West Bengal. It focuses on nurturing and showcasing young talent and motivating creativity amongst children and juveniles in the field of creative arts. At the same time, it also helps to impart human values; giving them a knowledge about the cultural heritage of the nation and a transparent view about the history and the social scenario of the country.
Through organizing various events throughout the year, the Akademi aims at bringing forward new talent amongst the kids, honing their skills in their respective fields of interest and providing them with a platform to showcase their flair. Breaking away from the daily pressure of studies, the Akademi acts as a mode of entertainment that interestingly juxtaposes education with fun. The Akademi regularly publishes a number of books and periodicals for developing budding faculty of mind. It publishes the quarterly magazine Chiro Sabuj Lekha. The Kolkata International Children’s Film Festival is an exclusive film festival organized by the Akademi every year keeping in mind the interests of the children. Apart from these, birthdays of celebrated and eminent litterateurs ranging from Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam and Upendrakishore Ray Chowdhury to Jogindranth Sarkar and Sunirmal Basu are celebrated. The Shishu Sahityik Anweshan is organized every year commemorating the birthday of Leela Majumdar. The Akademi also hosts the Rajya Shishu Kishore Utsav to encourage performing arts amongst children, all over Bengal.
In totality, the Shishu Kishore Akademi brings forward a package of events especially for the children and juveniles to pounce out of their monotonous daily routine boxes and explore themselves as well as the world outside.
